The Archie Comics TV adaptation has been ordered to series for the CW. The one-hour live-action drama “will be written by Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner brothers Studios and Berlanti productions and has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos. Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, a bunch more), Sarah Schecter, [Archie Comics publisher and CEO] Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers.”
I’m not sure I’m ready to see Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Jughead, and their pals explore “the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade”, but hey, I’ve liked other comic book adaptations that have little to do with the source material, like Lucifer and iZombie.
The cast is listed as “KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge.” You know who I don’t see there? Mr. Lodge. and he’s been a big part of the revamped Archie comic series, as he tries to keep Veronica and Archie apart. perhaps I shouldn’t read too much into how everyone has only one parent (if any) listed.
