Burne Hogarth’s Tarzan Vol. 05: Tarzan and the Adventurers HC
Burne Hogarth’s Tarzan Vol. 05: Tarzan and the Adventurers HC features something special for both Tarzan and Burne Hogarth fans – strips you’ve probably never seen as intended! Titan’s Steve Saffel shares the exciting news.
“As restoration wizard Pete Maresca was preparing the Sunday comic strips for volume 4, he made a startling discovery. beginning with the September 26, 1949 installment, Burne Hogarth began drawing the strips in a horizontal format. Hogarth even began placing part of the story in the title panel.

“However, numerous newspapers ran Tarzan in a vertical, tabloid format. To make the strip fit, they took Hogarth’s work and cut it up, eliminating some panels entirely and cutting others in half to fit on two rows. because many of the newspapers were tabloid, only a very few readers ever saw Hogarth’s uncut strips… until now. After much digging, Maresca located a complete set of the horizontal strips. only one problem remained.

“Originally Titan had planned only four volumes, all vertical. now we revised our publishing program so there could be a fifth volume, this one in the horizontal format. This is Burne Hogarth at his creative peak, and we were identified to present his work in the best way possible. So finally, readers will delight in all of the Sunday strips uncut, unaltered, and fully restored.
An example of why this is considered Hogarth’s peak
“As a bonus, volume 5, Tarzan and the Adventurers, will collect for the first time all of the daily Tarzan comic strips written by Hogarth. only a few featured artwork by Hogarth, while the rest were illustrated by Dan Barry, John Lehti, Nick Cardy, and Paul Reinman, each a major talent in his own right.”
So there you have it. Burne Hogarth’s Tarzan Vol. 05: Tarzan and the Adventurers HC is so chock full of outstanding art and stories that no fan of Tarzan, Burne Hogarth, or comics strips dare miss it.
