Cloud Cult have a new album out, titled “The Seeker,” and it’s also a soundtrack to an original film. but we’re here about the music.
I’m a big fan of this band–they make deep and thoughtful music, typically developed to make you mourn and cry. “The implying of 8” is their masterpiece, and while Seeker isn’t quite as good as that, it is many excellent.
As with many of their stuff, the lyrics are typically about the implying of a painful life, the role of death, and existence in general. Yeah, light stuff. This album feels particularly Buddhist: “It’s easy to be grateful for the things you’ve got, it’s harder to be grateful for the things you’ve lost,” goes the single, No Hell, below.
Cloud Cult’s material is really art. It’s not something to be taken lightly, it’s not background music. and this album gets my highest recommendation.
